  1. All dogs are animals. All animals need water. Therefore:

    Answer: All dogs need water

This is a syllogism: If all dogs are animals and all animals need water, then all dogs need water. The conclusion follows logically from the premises.

  2. If it rains, the ground gets wet. The ground is wet. Can we conclude it rained?

Answer: No, because other things could make the ground wet

This is the logical fallacy of affirming the consequent. Other things (sprinklers, spills) could also make the ground wet, so we cannot conclude it rained.

  3. In a series of numbers where each term is the sum of the two preceding terms, if the first two terms are 1 and 1, what is the sixth term?

    Answer: 8

    This is the Fibonacci sequence: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8. The sixth term is 8 (3+5=8).

  4. If Statement 1: 'No cats are fish' and Statement 2: 'All goldfish are fish,' which conclusion is valid?

    Answer: No goldfish are cats

Since no cats are fish and all goldfish are fish, goldfish must be in the 'fish' category which excludes all cats. Therefore, no goldfish are cats.

  5. A is taller than B. C is shorter than B. D is taller than A. Who is the shortest?

    Answer: C

    From tallest to shortest: D > A > B > C. C is shorter than B, who is shorter than A, who is shorter than D.

  6. If you flip a fair coin three times, what is the probability of getting at least one head?

    Answer: 7/8

    P(at least one head) = 1 - P(no heads) = 1 - (1/2)³ = 1 - 1/8 = 7/8.
