A car uses 6 liters of fuel per 100 km. How much fuel is needed for a 250 km trip?
Answer: 15 liters
Fuel = (6 ÷ 100) × 250 = 15 liters.
The average of five numbers is 12. If four of the numbers are 10, 11, 13, and 14, what is the fifth?
Answer: 12
Total = 5 × 12 = 60; sum of known numbers = 10 + 11 + 13 + 14 = 48; fifth number = 60 − 48 = 12.
A square has perimeter 36 cm. What is its area?
Answer: 81 cm²
Side = 36 ÷ 4 = 9 cm; area = 9² = 81 cm².
A store increases a price by 20% and then decreases it by 20%. Is the final price higher, lower, or the same as the original?
Answer: Lower than original
Increasing then decreasing by 20% gives 1.2 × 0.8 = 0.96 times the original, which is 4% lower.
What is 15% of 200?
Answer: 30
15% of 200 = 0.15 × 200 = 30.
A pool holds 5,000 liters. A pipe fills it at 200 liters per minute. How many minutes to fill the pool?
Answer: 25
Time = 5,000 ÷ 200 = 25 minutes.
