  1. If 3x - 7 = 2x + 5, what is x?

    Answer: 12

    Subtracting 2x and adding 7 gives x = 12.

  2. A rectangle has length 8 and width 6. What is the length of its diagonal?

    Answer: 10

    √(8² + 6²) = √100 = 10.

  3. What is 15% of 80?

    Answer: 12

    0.15 × 80 = 12.

  4. If the ratio of boys to girls is 3:5 and there are 24 boys, how many girls are there?

    Answer: 40

    Each part is 24 ÷ 3 = 8, so girls = 5 × 8 = 40.

  5. A number increased by 30% equals 65. What is the number?

    Answer: 50

    65 ÷ 1.30 = 50.

  6. What is the sum of the first 10 positive integers?

    Answer: 55

    Using n(n+1)/2 = 10×11/2 = 55.

  7. If a car uses 8 gallons to travel 200 miles, how many gallons for 350 miles?

    Answer: 14

    200/8 = 25 mpg, so 350 ÷ 25 = 14 gallons.
