If the side length of a square is doubled, how does its area change?
Answer: It quadruples
Area depends on the side squared, so doubling the side multiplies area by 4.
A rectangular pool is 10 m long, 4 m wide, and 2 m deep. What is its volume?
Answer: 80 m³
Volume is length × width × depth: 10 × 4 × 2 = 80 m³.
What is the total surface area of a cube with an edge of 3 cm?
Answer: 54 cm²
A cube has 6 faces, each 3² = 9 cm², so 6 × 9 = 54 cm².
A composite shape is made of a 4 cm by 3 cm rectangle joined to a 4 cm by 2 cm rectangle. What is its total area?
Answer: 20 cm²
Add the two areas: (4 × 3) + (4 × 2) = 12 + 8 = 20 cm².
The perimeter of a rectangle is 30 cm and its length is 9 cm. What is its width?
Answer: 6 cm
Half the perimeter is 15, so width = 15 − 9 = 6 cm.
How many square centimeters are in one square meter?
Answer: 10,000 cm²
Since 1 m = 100 cm, 1 m² = 100 × 100 = 10,000 cm².
A cylinder and a cone have the same base and height. If the cylinder's volume is 90 cm³, what is the cone's volume?
Answer: 30 cm³
A cone holds one-third of the matching cylinder: 90 ÷ 3 = 30 cm³.
