Share £150 between Amy and Ben in the ratio 2 : 3. How much does Ben get?
Answer: £90
There are 2 + 3 = 5 parts, so one part is £150 ÷ 5 = £30. Ben gets 3 parts = £90.
A recipe for 4 people uses 300 g of flour. How much flour is needed for 10 people?
Answer: 750 g
For 1 person, 300 ÷ 4 = 75 g. For 10 people, 75 × 10 = 750 g.
Write the ratio 2 : 5 in the form 1 : n.
Answer: 1 : 2.5
Divide both parts by 2: 2 ÷ 2 = 1 and 5 ÷ 2 = 2.5, giving 1 : 2.5.
The exchange rate is £1 = €1.15. How many euros would you get for £240?
Answer: €276.00
Multiply the pounds by the rate: 240 × 1.15 = €276.
In a class, the ratio of boys to girls is 3 : 4. There are 12 boys. How many students are in the class altogether?
Answer: 28
3 parts = 12 boys, so 1 part = 4. Girls = 4 × 4 = 16. Total = 12 + 16 = 28.
