A circle has a diameter of 10 cm. What is its circumference? (Use π ≈ 3.14)
Answer: 31.4 cm
Circumference = πd = 3.14 × 10 = 31.4 cm.
Rearrange to make t the subject: v = u + at
Answer: t = (v − u) / a
Subtract u: v − u = at, then divide by a: t = (v − u) / a.
What is the lowest common multiple (LCM) of 12 and 18?
Answer: 36
LCM(12, 18) = 36, since 36 is the smallest number divisible by both 12 and 18.
A data set has a mean of 8 and contains the values 5, 7, 10, x. What is x?
Answer: 10
Mean = (5 + 7 + 10 + x) / 4 = 8, so 22 + x = 32, giving x = 10.
What is the equation of a line with gradient 3 that passes through (0, −2)?
Answer: y = 3x − 2
Using y = mx + c with m = 3 and c = −2 gives y = 3x − 2.
A spinner has 8 equal sections numbered 1 to 8. What is the probability of landing on an even number?
Answer: 1/2
Even numbers 1–8 are {2, 4, 6, 8} = 4 outcomes, so P = 4/8 = 1/2.
Solve: x² − 5x + 6 = 0
Answer: x = 2 or x = 3
Factorising: (x − 2)(x − 3) = 0, so x = 2 or x = 3.
