  1. In a class of 40 students, 16 are boys. What percentage of the class are girls?

    Answer: 60%

    Girls = 40 − 16 = 24; percentage = 24/40 × 100 = 60%.

  2. What is the mean of the values 4, 8, 12, 6, 10?

    Answer: 8

    Mean = (4 + 8 + 12 + 6 + 10) ÷ 5 = 40 ÷ 5 = 8.

  3. A bag contains 4 red, 6 blue, and 2 green balls. What is the probability of randomly selecting a green ball?

    Answer: 1/6

    Probability = 2 ÷ (4 + 6 + 2) = 2/12 = 1/6.

  4. What is the range of the data set: 12, 5, 19, 8, 23?

    Answer: 18

    Range = Maximum − Minimum = 23 − 5 = 18.

  5. Which measure of central tendency is most affected by extreme outlier values?

    Answer: Mean

    The mean uses the actual numerical value of every data point, so extreme values can significantly skew it.

  6. A store sells 25 items at $8 each and 15 items at $12 each. What is the total revenue?

    Answer: $380

    Total = (25 × $8) + (15 × $12) = $200 + $180 = $380.

  7. If sales increased from $50,000 to $65,000, what is the percentage increase?

    Answer: 30%

    Percentage increase = (65,000 − 50,000) / 50,000 × 100 = 15,000 / 50,000 × 100 = 30%.
