Funeral Service Test Technology & Digital Applications 3 — Questions and Answers
Question 1: A funeral home posts an obituary on its website and enables an online guestbook. Under which scenario could this create a legal or ethical concern?
- A non-family member posts inaccurate information about the decedent (Correct answer)
- The obituary includes the decedent's full name
- The service times are listed in local time
- The guestbook allows condolences in multiple languages
Correct answer: A non-family member posts inaccurate information about the decedent
Unmoderated guestbook entries can contain false, defamatory, or harmful content, exposing the funeral home to liability and distressing the family.
Question 2: Which type of digital payment method is increasingly offered by funeral homes to allow families to pay balances remotely before or after services?
- Online payment portal with encrypted SSL/TLS transactions (Correct answer)
- Cash-only kiosk at the funeral home entrance
- Telegraphic wire transfer only
- Barter or trade agreement system
Correct answer: Online payment portal with encrypted SSL/TLS transactions
Online payment portals using SSL/TLS encryption allow families to pay securely from any location, reducing in-person financial interactions during grief.
Question 3: What is the primary purpose of using QR codes on memorial cards or grave markers in modern funeral practice?
- To link mourners directly to a digital memorial page or tribute video (Correct answer)
- To encode the chemical composition of embalming fluid
- To satisfy OSHA labeling requirements
- To replace the legal death certificate number
Correct answer: To link mourners directly to a digital memorial page or tribute video
QR codes on memorial items allow visitors to scan and instantly access online tributes, photos, or memorial pages linked to the deceased.
Question 4: A funeral home director is evaluating software for electronic preneed contract management. What is the most critical compliance feature this software must include?
- State-specific preneed trust and escrow reporting requirements (Correct answer)
- Social media post scheduling
- Automated flower delivery ordering
- Integration with restaurant reservation systems
Correct answer: State-specific preneed trust and escrow reporting requirements
Preneed software must track trust deposits and generate reports that comply with individual state preneed fund regulations to avoid regulatory violations.
Question 5: Which digital tool allows funeral home staff to capture, store, and quickly retrieve a decedent's embalming report, authorization forms, and service records in one location?
- Electronic case management system (CMS) (Correct answer)
- Standalone word processor like Microsoft Word
- Email inbox folder
- Paper filing cabinet with numeric tabs
Correct answer: Electronic case management system (CMS)
An electronic case management system centralizes all records for each decedent, enabling fast retrieval and reducing risk of lost paperwork.
Question 6: What is 'two-factor authentication' (2FA) and why is it recommended for funeral home software logins?
- A login requiring both a password and a second verification (e.g., SMS code) to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive records (Correct answer)
- Logging in with two different passwords on two separate computers
- Requiring two employees to approve every software action
- Using two different browsers to access the same account
Correct answer: A login requiring both a password and a second verification (e.g., SMS code) to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive records
2FA adds a second layer of identity verification so that stolen passwords alone cannot grant access to sensitive decedent and family data.
Question 7: When a funeral home creates a digital marketing campaign, which metric best indicates that an online obituary or service announcement is reaching the target audience?
- Geographic and demographic reach of the post impressions (Correct answer)
- Total number of emojis used in the post
- The font size selected for the obituary header
- Whether the post was published before noon
Correct answer: Geographic and demographic reach of the post impressions
Geographic and demographic reach data shows whether the audience viewing the content matches the intended community, enabling campaign adjustments.
