Standardized tests known as the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations 2026 (FTCE) are created to evaluate prospective teachers' abilities in compliance with Florida's Sunshine State Standards. The name "FTCE" refers to 47 separate exams, including 42 Subject Area exams, 1 Professional Education exam, and 4 General Knowledge sub-tests.
One of the requirements for becoming a certified teacher in Florida is passing the appropriate FTCE exam 2026. Prospective teachers must first pass through the Bureau of Educator Certification of the Department of Education to become certified. According to the Bureau, candidates for teacher certification must submit an application before requesting to take the certification exams. It should be emphasized that the Bureau of Educator Certification requires that all educators hold either a professional or temporary certification.
The FTCE General Knowledge exam is divided into four subtests.
The FTCE General Knowledge Exam is the first exam that prospective teachers must take before they can begin their career in Florida. It includes four subtests: English Language Skills, Reading, Mathematics and an Essay. Each section has a different number of questions and testing time. The English Language Skills and Reading subtests are multiple-choice, while the Math subtest uses an on-screen calculator, so you cannot bring your own. The Essay subtest requires you to read a passage and write an essay on it.
To pass the FTCE GK exam, you must score at least 200 on each of the subtests. The FTCE website has a helpful table that lists the percentages you must score to pass each subtest.

FTCE fees are used to cover costs for developing, administering, scoring, reporting and quality control of the exam, according to a state spokesperson. The FLDOE contracts those tasks to testing giant, Pearson Inc.
Candidates are required to pay the fee before they can book an FTCE test session. They must also select a testing site, date and time. Once they have done this, they can proceed with the registration process and complete their payment.
If you fail an FTCE, you must wait 31 days before retaking it. Generally, you must retake the full exam, but for certain exams, including General Knowledge Test, Elementary Education K-6, Chemistry 6-12 and Middle Grades Mathematics 5-9, you can retake the subtests that you failed. There is an additional fee for each retake. Some retakes also require a new score report. These fees are not refundable. You should be aware that you are agreeing to arbitrate fee disputes and may give up your right to a trial by judge or jury. You should consult an attorney before you sign this agreement.
Depending on the sort of test you'll take, different FTCE fees apply. You may access the full price list by subject by clicking here. visit www.fl.nesinc.com/tests.asp
Additional fees may also apply upon request of the following:
| FTCE Additional Fees | ||
| Score verification session | $75 | Credit, debit, or check cards. |
| Duplicate score report | $10 | Check or money order. |
| Clearing an account | $20 | Check or money order. |
Note: For Duplicate Score Report and Clearing an Account, the fees are non-refundable.
The FTCE scoring system converts your raw score into a scaled score that is comparable across different test forms. This allows the FTCE to account for varying difficulty levels among the multiple-choice and performance sections of an exam.
If you fail any of the sections, an unofficial βNOT PASSEDβ and a numeric scaled score will appear on your score report. You will need to wait 31 days before retaking the failed section or portion. During this time, you can invest your efforts into studying the subjects that stumped you.
If you are within 10 points of a passing score, you can request an appointment for a score verification session. These sessions give you the opportunity to identify errors that may have occurred during marking the tests. If you have a passing score, an official βPASSEDβ will appear on your score report. A copy of your score report will also be sent to the school district, college or university you designated as a recipient when you registered for your FTCE. The FTCE score results are valid for five years from the date of your score report release.
Note: If you pass the test or not, it will be clear from your score report. Your score report will indicate "PENDING" if the result for that particular subtest is either delayed or not yet available.
| FTCE Passing Score | |
| General Knowledge Test | A scaled score of 200 for each subtest. |
| Professional Education Test | A scaled score of 200 for the whole test. |
| Subject Area Examinations | A scaled score of 200 for each subtest. |
