Question 1

Why is active listening important in client communication?

Accepted Answer

It demonstrates respect and understanding

Answer

Active listening involves fully concentrating on what the client (or parent/guardian) is saying, both verbally and non-verbally. This practice demonstrates that their concerns, preferences, and feedback are valued, building trust and fostering a strong therapeutic relationship based on mutual respect and understanding.

Accepted Answer

Client confidentiality is a fundamental ethical principle, meaning all client information must be kept private. Discussing a client's details with anyone not directly involved in their care, such as a friend, is a serious breach of trust and professional ethics.

Question 3

What is the best way to handle a client’s complaint?

Accepted Answer

Listen actively and address the issue

Answer

When a client has a complaint, the most professional and ethical approach is to listen attentively without interruption or defensiveness. This demonstrates respect, allows the therapist to fully understand the concern, and provides an opportunity to address the issue constructively and find a resolution.

They then voluntarily agree to the treatment, ensuring ethical practice and legal compliance.
