Failed my WV DMV test twice — what am I missing?

Okay I'm embarrassed to even post this but I've failed the West Virginia DMV knowledge test twice now and I'm losing my mind. First time I only got a 72 (need 76 to pass) and the second time I somehow did worse — 68. I've been reading through the WV driver's manual but honestly it's so dry I zone out halfway through. A friend mentioned using a WV DMV practice test online which I hadn't really tried yet, mostly just flashcards.

The questions that keep tripping me up are road signs — especially the less common warning signs — and right-of-way rules at intersections. I've got maybe two weeks before I want to retake it because I start a new job that requires me to drive. Has anyone found a solid study guide specifically for West Virginia? I want to stop guessing and actually understand the logic behind the rules.

Any exam tips from people who've passed recently would really help. Especially curious how many hours you actually studied before you felt ready.

I was in almost the exact same spot last spring. What finally clicked for me was doing timed practice tests instead of just reading. I used a WV DMV practice test site and did like 3-4 full tests a day for a week. The repetition is what gets the signs into your head. Road signs were my weak spot too — I made a little paper cheat sheet with the shapes and colors and quizzed myself while eating breakfast. Passed with an 88 on my third attempt.

Right-of-way questions are sneaky because there's like four different scenarios and they all have slightly different answers depending on who arrived first vs. who's turning. I'd suggest finding a study guide that breaks those down separately rather than lumping them together. Also don't skip the sections on speed limits in school zones and construction zones — those came up more than I expected on mine. Good luck, two weeks is definitely enough time if you stay consistent.

Honestly the official WV DMV manual is rough to read but the last 20 pages are worth going back to. Most of the exam tips I saw online said about 70% of questions come from signs and traffic laws — so don't waste time memorizing vehicle inspection stuff. You've got this, the third time really does seem to be the charm for a lot of people.
