Finally passed my WPR after two attempts — here's what actually helped
So I just got my results back this morning and I'm honestly still in shock — I passed! This was my second attempt after failing by 8 points back in March, so I feel like I've been living and breathing this exam for the past four months. Wanted to share what finally clicked for me in case anyone else is stuck in the same spot.
The biggest thing that changed my approach was actually treating WPR practice test sessions like timed simulations instead of just casually flipping through questions. I'd do full 90-minute blocks with my phone in another room. The content areas that killed me the first time were media relations and crisis communications — I thought I knew them but the way questions are worded is really specific. A solid study guide that mapped the PRSA body of knowledge was a game changer for structuring my prep.
I studied about 90 minutes a day for six weeks leading up to the retake. Used a mix of flashcards for terminology and scenario-based practice sets for the application questions. If you're currently prepping, focus hard on measurement and ethics — those showed up way more than I expected. Happy to answer any questions!
