Finally passed my WPR after two attempts — here's what actually helped

So I just got my results back this morning and I'm honestly still in shock — I passed! This was my second attempt after failing by 8 points back in March, so I feel like I've been living and breathing this exam for the past four months. Wanted to share what finally clicked for me in case anyone else is stuck in the same spot.

The biggest thing that changed my approach was actually treating WPR practice test sessions like timed simulations instead of just casually flipping through questions. I'd do full 90-minute blocks with my phone in another room. The content areas that killed me the first time were media relations and crisis communications — I thought I knew them but the way questions are worded is really specific. A solid study guide that mapped the PRSA body of knowledge was a game changer for structuring my prep.

I studied about 90 minutes a day for six weeks leading up to the retake. Used a mix of flashcards for terminology and scenario-based practice sets for the application questions. If you're currently prepping, focus hard on measurement and ethics — those showed up way more than I expected. Happy to answer any questions!

Congrats!! I'm scheduled for mine in seven weeks and the crisis communications section is exactly what's stressing me out too. Did you find any particular resource that broke down the situational questions well? I keep second-guessing myself between two answer choices that both seem reasonable. Also curious how many practice questions you went through total before you felt ready.

This is really encouraging to read. I failed my first attempt last fall and honestly just shelved the whole thing because I was demoralized. The exam tips about timed simulation blocks make a lot of sense — I was definitely too casual in my study sessions. I work in corporate comms so I figured my day job would carry me further than it did. That was a mistake. Going to restart my prep this month.

The measurement section is no joke. I work in agency PR and we barely touch ROI metrics in practice, so that section felt totally foreign when I sat for it. Definitely carve out extra time there if your background is more media-facing. And congrats on the pass — second attempts take real guts!
