Finally passed my UPS package handler assessment — here's what actually helped

So I just got my conditional offer from UPS last week and I wanted to share my experience because I was pretty lost when I started preparing. The online assessment threw me off — I didn't realize there'd be a situational judgment portion on top of the basic reading and math sections. I found a UPS practice test through a test prep site that mimicked the format pretty closely, and honestly that was the turning point for me.

I spent about a week studying, maybe 45 minutes a day. The math isn't crazy hard — mostly basic arithmetic, unit conversions, that kind of thing — but the time pressure gets to you if you haven't practiced. The situational judgment questions are trickier because there's no single right answer; you're basically showing UPS how you'd handle workplace conflicts or safety decisions.

If you're prepping right now, I'd say get a solid study guide that covers both sections, not just the math. The judgment stuff is actually what tripped up a few people in my hiring group. Happy to answer questions if anyone's going through the same process.

This is really helpful, thanks for posting. I have my assessment scheduled for next Thursday and I've been drilling the math but totally ignoring the situational part. Do you remember roughly how many questions were in that section? And did the exam tips you found online actually match what showed up, or was it mostly different?

I went through this about six months ago for a driver helper position. The situational judgment section is no joke — I almost blew it because I answered based on what I'd personally do instead of what UPS policy would want. Once I reframed it as 'what would make a good UPS employee do' the answers became way more obvious. Definitely worth practicing that mindset before test day.

Congrats on the offer! For anyone else reading — the math section has a time limit that's tighter than it looks. I did three full practice tests the night before and I'm convinced that's what kept me from blanking on the real thing. Don't skip the timed runs.
