Finally passed TSIA2 after three attempts — here's what actually worked

Okay so I've been lurking here for a while and I figured it was time to actually contribute something useful. I took the TSIA2 for the third time last Tuesday and I finally passed all three sections — math, reading, and writing. My first two attempts were embarrassing, honestly. I kept scoring just below the college-ready cutoff in math (kept getting like a 945 when I needed a 950) and I had no idea what I was doing wrong.

What finally clicked for me was actually sitting down with a structured TSIA2 study guide instead of just doing random YouTube videos. I spent about 3 weeks, maybe 45 minutes a day, focusing specifically on linear equations and functions because that's where I kept losing points. I also ran through a full TSIA2 practice test every 4-5 days to track my progress and get used to the pacing — the real exam moves faster than you expect.

My biggest tip: don't ignore the diagnostic section at the start. It determines what questions you see next, so you actually want to take it seriously instead of rushing through it. Anyone else have experience with the adaptive format tripping them up?

The diagnostic thing is SO true and nobody talks about it. I work at a tutoring center and we tell every student the same thing — treat question one like it's the most important question on the test, because functionally it kind of is. Also practice under timed conditions from day one. The pressure is real.

Congrats on passing! The adaptive format got me too on my first attempt. I didn't realize that bombing the early questions locked me into easier ones that still counted against my score. For the writing section specifically — the essay portion isn't graded separately, it's combined with the multiple choice, so don't spend 40 minutes on it trying to write something perfect. Solid outline, clear thesis, two body paragraphs. That's it.

Can I ask what study guide you used? I'm scheduled for my first attempt in three weeks and math is definitely my weak spot too. I've been doing Khan Academy but I'm not sure if it maps well to what's actually on the test. Also did you find the reading section harder than expected? Everyone I've talked to says math is the beast but my placement test scores from high school suggest reading might be my issue.
