Failed my TABC exam twice — what am I missing?

So I've been trying to get my TABC certification for about three weeks now and I've failed twice. First time I got a 74 (passing is 75 in Texas), second time a 72 — somehow got worse. I work at a bar on weekends and my manager needs me certified by the end of the month or I can't keep serving. The stress is real.

I've been reading through the official materials but honestly they're pretty dry and I can't tell what the exam actually focuses on. I found a TABC practice test online that helped a little, but I'm still shaky on the intoxication signs and the minor-related scenarios. Does anyone have a solid study guide they used, or any exam tips for the sections that actually show up most?

I have about five days before my next attempt. Any advice would be seriously appreciated — I really can't afford to fail a third time.

I was in almost the exact same spot last year. The thing that finally made it click for me was focusing hard on the three-strikes rule and what counts as a "sale" versus service. The exam loves to throw weird hypotheticals about that. I spent maybe four hours total using a TABC practice test site and drilling those scenarios specifically. Passed with an 84 on my third try.

Honestly the study guide on the official TABC Provider site is worth printing out. I highlighted anything about refusing service and intervention techniques — those came up constantly on my exam. Also don't overthink the blood alcohol content charts. They give you the table, you just need to know how to read it quickly. Good luck, five days is enough time if you're focused.

The minor scenarios tripped me up too. Key thing: when in doubt, the answer is almost always 'refuse service and ask for ID.' TABC exam tips basically boil down to 'err on the side of caution every time.' You've got this.
