Best free resources for CLA prep — what's actually worth your time
Compiling a list of what's actually useful for CLA prep after going through a lot of material that wasn't. Wanted to share what worked for me and hopefully save others some time.
For exam prep specifically, the free resources are surprisingly good. The free cla supply chain & logistics fundamentals questions and answers has questions that closely match real exam difficulty — not dumbed-down versions that give you false confidence. For the conceptual background, certified logistics analyst is one of the better free reads available.
What I'd skip: most YouTube "pass in one week" content. The explanations are surface-level and don't prepare you for the applied questions on the actual CLA exam. Flashcards alone also aren't enough for this one.
What actually worked: timed practice sets with immediate review of wrong answers, reading the official reference material for any concept that came up more than twice, and finding one study partner for accountability.
The part about reviewing wrong answers thoroughly is so underrated. Most people just move on after getting something wrong. Going back to understand the concept is what actually builds retention for the CLA.
Bookmarking this. I'm still in the early stages of CLA prep and threads like this are way more useful than generic study guides. The specifics about practice test are particularly helpful — that's the section I've been avoiding.
Late to this thread but wanted to add — the study guide section trips up more people than any other part. If you're scoring below 75% there in practice, treat it as your only focus for at least a week before moving on. Breadth at the expense of depth in that area is a common mistake.
Same experience here. The free cla supply chain & logistics fundamentals questions and answers was what finally made it click for me — specifically the way it explains the reasoning rather than just giving answers. Took me 2 weeks of consistent practice but scores went from 62% to 80% by exam day.
Congrats on passing! Can I ask — how many questions did the actual exam have compared to what the practice tests simulate? I've seen different numbers online and want to calibrate my timing during practice.
Honestly I almost quit after the first two weeks because nothing seemed to click. The official material felt dense and I wasn't retaining it, and I kept second-guessing whether the free stuff was even worth my time. What turned it around for me was drilling specific topic areas instead of trying to review everything at once. The cla/questions/reverse logistics sustainability questions in particular were way more useful than I expected, especially since I'd been skipping that section thinking it was minor.
If you're feeling stuck just keep going. It doesn't feel like it's working until suddenly it does. I passed on my second attempt and I genuinely think it was the targeted practice that made the difference, not buying any paid course.
Just hit 78% on my last practice run, which honestly surprised me -- I wasn't expecting to score that well this early. I've been drilling the cla/questions/reverse logistics sustainability section pretty hard because it kept tripping me up, and it's finally clicking. Still a few weak spots but nothing that feels unmanageable.
Planning to sit the real exam in about six weeks. It feels tight but I think it's doable if I stay consistent. You don't need to cover everything perfectly, just make sure the areas that show up most often are solid.
