SQA exam prep – 2 months in and still not feeling ready

I've been working in a regulated lab environment for about 6 years and finally decided to go for the SQA certification. Two months into studying, roughly 2 hours a night, and I'm still not confident about the regulatory compliance sections. The breadth of topics covered is overwhelming when you're used to only one part of the QA process.

The area I'm struggling with most is the GLP/GMP crossover questions. In my day job I only deal with GLP, so the GMP-specific requirements feel like a completely different world. I've been using flashcards for the regulatory definitions but I'm not sure that's the most efficient approach at this stage.

For people who've passed – how many practice questions did you work through before you felt ready? I'm averaging around 68-72% on the practice tests I've found, and I'm not sure what passing score target gives real confidence going in.

I'm giving myself another 6 weeks before booking the actual exam date. Just wanted to hear from people who've been through it about whether my timeline is realistic or if I should push it back further.

The GLP/GMP overlap is legitimately confusing and the exam does test it directly. I made a comparison table listing the key differences side by side – took maybe 2 hours to build but I referred to it almost every day in the final two weeks of prep.

Make sure you're covering audit documentation requirements and CAPA procedures thoroughly – those showed up more than I expected. I underweighted that section and it cost me points even though I passed overall.

I passed on my first attempt after about 3 months total. My practice test scores were around 74-78% before I sat for the real thing, and that felt like enough buffer. The actual exam felt slightly easier than the harder practice sets I was using, which was a relief.

Six weeks sounds reasonable if you're already at 68-72%. I'd push for consistent 80%+ on practice tests before you book, not just average. The variance matters – you don't want to walk in and hit a bad section cold.

I felt the exact same way at the two-month mark, honestly almost gave up. What finally clicked for me was stopping trying to memorize every regulation and instead learning why each rule exists. Once I understood the logic behind the compliance framework, the specifics started sticking way better. It's a different way of studying but it made a huge difference.

Also don't underestimate practice questions. I wasn't doing nearly enough of them until the last few weeks, and that's when my confidence actually jumped. You don't need to feel ready, you just need to keep going. Six years of lab experience means you already understand more than you think.
