Finally passed my SOP exam after two failed attempts — here's what worked

So I just got my results back and I finally passed the SOP certification on my third try. Honestly embarrassing to admit but I think my experience might help someone else avoid the same mistakes I made. The first two times I just read through the manual and figured that'd be enough. Spoiler: it wasn't. The questions are way more scenario-based than I expected, and just memorizing procedures doesn't cut it.

What actually moved the needle for me was finding a decent SOP practice test and hammering it repeatedly. I'd do a timed session, review every wrong answer, and actually look up the why behind each one. I also grabbed a study guide that broke down the operational security sections specifically — those tripped me up hard in my first attempt. Spent maybe 3-4 hours a day for three weeks leading up to the exam.

For anyone preparing right now, I'd say don't underestimate the incident response and documentation modules. They made up a bigger chunk than I expected. Happy to share more specific exam tips if anyone has questions — just ask below.

Third attempt success stories are my favorite to read on here. I passed on my second try last year and the thing that helped me most was treating the practice tests like a diagnostic tool rather than just a score checker. Every wrong answer tells you something. Also, the week before my exam I stopped doing new material entirely and just reviewed weak areas. My brain needed consolidation time, not more input.

Congrats on passing! I'm sitting mine in about six weeks and honestly your post is reassuring. I've been grinding practice questions too but I keep bombing the documentation sections. Did you find any particular format of questions harder — like, were most of them choose-the-best-answer or did they have the 'select all that apply' style? Those always wreck me because I second-guess myself.

The incident response module is no joke — took me way longer to feel confident there than anywhere else. Good tip about the scenario questions too, that surprised me on my first attempt. Congrats on getting through it!
