Finally passed SOCRA after failing twice — here's what actually worked

Okay so I've been lurking here for a while and figured I owed it to the community to actually post after everything I went through. I sat for the SOCRA certification exam in February and March of this year and failed both times — not by a lot, but enough. My scores were 68% and 71% when I needed a 75% to pass. I was honestly devastated after the second attempt because I'd put in serious study time.

What changed for the third attempt was how I studied. I stopped just re-reading my ACRP materials and started actually drilling with a SOCRA practice test every single day for three weeks. Doing timed, randomized questions made a huge difference because the real exam moves fast and I wasn't used to that pressure. I also found a study guide that broke down the regulatory sections by CFR citation, which is where I kept losing points.

Anyone else struggling with the ICH E6 R2 section specifically? That was my biggest weak spot and I'd love to compare notes with people still in the trenches.

Congrats on passing! The ICH E6 R2 stuff tripped me up too. What helped me was making a one-page cheat sheet of the sponsor vs. investigator responsibilities and just drilling that until it was automatic. The exam loves to ask about who's responsible for what. Also — how many questions per day were you doing with the practice tests? I'm aiming for maybe 30-40 and wondering if that's enough.

I passed last fall on my second try. Honestly the exam tips I wish someone had given me earlier: pay close attention to questions about protocol deviations vs. violations because they word those really sneakily. Also don't overthink the adverse event reporting timelines — they're straightforward if you just memorize the 7-day vs. 15-day rules cold. The regulatory questions feel harder than they are once you realize they're mostly pattern recognition.

This post is exactly what I needed today. Sitting for SOCRA in six weeks and starting to panic. Going to add daily practice questions to my routine starting tonight. Thank you for being specific about what changed — that's way more useful than generic "study harder" advice.
