Taking my (SELT) Skills for English exam in 3 weeks and trying to find people at a similar stage to keep each other accountable.

I study better when I have someone to compare notes with. Currently going through "selt nh" and working on my weak areas — specifically around english test selt.

My schedule: 90 min of focused study every weekday, full practice test on weekends. I review every wrong answer and try to understand the why, not just memorize the right option.

If you're in a similar prep window and want to:
- Compare practice test scores weekly
- Share resources that actually helped
- Talk through confusing questions

Reply here or message me. Doesn't have to be formal — even just checking in once a week helps me stay on track.

Where is everyone at in their prep?

For what it's worth from someone who's been through it:

The SELT is one of those exams where the practice tests really do prepare you well. The style of questioning is pretty consistent. If you're comfortable with "selt" material under timed conditions, you'll be fine.

The one thing I'd add: read the question stems very carefully. They sometimes add a qualifier that completely changes the right answer and it's easy to miss when you're going fast.

Also check whether you need to schedule the exam in advance — some testing centers book up 2-3 weeks out.

Quick update for this thread: just cleared 90% on my most recent SELT practice set. The selt has been my main resource and the difficulty feels right — not easy enough to give false confidence, not so hard it's discouraging. Sitting for the real thing in 2 weeks.

Quick update: just cleared 88% on my most recent SELT practice set using free selt reading. Sitting for the real thing in 3 weeks. Feeling cautiously optimistic.

I failed my first attempt back in January and honestly it was a wake-up call. I'd been spending way too much time on listening and totally neglecting reading — once I started drilling free selt reading practice daily it made a huge difference. The timing caught me off guard too, I wasn't pacing myself at all.

Second time around I treated it more like a job. Set a strict daily schedule, stopped cramming the night before, and actually tracked which question types were killing me. If you're three weeks out you've still got enough time to turn it around. Happy to check in with each other if you want some accountability.

Yes! I'm in the same boat, taking mine in about 4 weeks. One thing that's been huge for me is going through every wrong answer and figuring out exactly why it's wrong, not just marking it and moving on. It's slower but it sticks way better. I've been using free selt reading practice sets and forcing myself to explain each distractor before checking the answer key.

The reading section especially — there's usually a reason each wrong option fails, like it's too extreme, or it's true but not supported by the passage. Once you start seeing those patterns you stop second-guessing yourself so much. DM me if you want to swap schedules, would be good to have someone checking in.
