Finally passed my SFPC after two attempts — what actually helped

Hey everyone. I wanted to share my experience because when I was prepping I couldn't find much real talk about this exam. The SFPC (Secure Facilities Professional Certification) felt overwhelming at first — there's a lot of ground to cover between physical security concepts, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance, and the official materials only go so far.

My first attempt I scored a 68, which is below the passing threshold. I'd basically just read through the handbook and figured that was enough. Big mistake. Second time around I spent about six weeks actually studying — I used an SFPC study guide I found online, took a ton of notes on access control and security planning principles, and worked through every SFPC practice test I could get my hands on. Night and day difference.

The exam tips that helped me most: don't just memorize definitions, understand the *why* behind each concept. The questions are scenario-based, so they're testing your judgment, not just recall. Anyone else have experience with this cert? Happy to answer questions.

Congrats on passing! I work in physical security and got my SFPC last year. The thing that clicked for me was treating the study guide as a framework rather than a script — the exam really does want you to think like a practitioner. I'd also add: pay close attention to anything touching on layered security and threat assessment models. Those came up a lot more than I expected.

This is so helpful, thank you. I'm sitting for it in about 8 weeks and honestly the scenario questions are what scare me most. I've been drilling the SFPC practice test questions from two different sources and noticing they word things really differently. Did you find one resource that felt closer to the actual exam format? I want to make sure I'm not wasting time on something that doesn't reflect the real thing.

Six weeks sounds about right. I crammed it into four and barely scraped through with a 74. Do not recommend my approach. Give yourself time to actually absorb the material, especially the compliance and standards sections. Good luck to anyone in the process!
