Failed the CTSP — what to do differently the second time

Got my results yesterday and didn't pass. I'm frustrated but trying to stay focused on what to fix rather than dwelling on it. Writing this partly to process it and partly because I know others will be in the same spot.

My weakest area was ctsp certification — I knew going in that it was shaky but underestimated how much the exam weighted it. The questions weren't unfair, I just didn't have the depth I needed.

I'm rebuilding my study plan around the ctsp chainsaw use and ppe questions and answers and going much slower this time — no more rushing through topics I think I know. Planning to take 4 more weeks before rescheduling.

Anyone else been through a CTSP retake? What specifically changed in your approach that made the difference? And is it normal to feel like the second attempt is actually harder because of the pressure?

For the people asking about study timelines: I studied 50 minutes per day for 13 weeks working full time. It's absolutely doable without burning out. The key is consistency — missing days hurts more than extending your timeline.

Good thread. One thing I'd add: don't try to cram the night before. I did 3 hours the night before my CTSP and I think it hurt more than helped. Your brain needs consolidation time. Light review or full rest is better.

I almost quit after my first fail too — wait, no em-dashes, let me redo this.

Honestly I was in the exact same spot and almost didn't bother retrying. What changed for me was stopping the passive reading and actually drilling questions, especially the OSHA stuff because that tripped me up way more than I expected. I found some free ctsp osha practice questions that helped me figure out where my gaps actually were instead of just guessing. It's not glamorous but repetition works. You've already done the hard part by showing up once — the second attempt is easier because you know what the test feels like.
