So I've now sat the RSA theory test twice and failed both times, scoring 32/40 and 34/40 when you need 35 to pass. Both times it's the road signs and rules-of-the-road questions that kill me. I've been using the official RSA app but I'm not sure I'm using it right — maybe just clicking through without actually learning the material.
I spent about 2 weeks studying the first time, maybe 30 minutes a day, and clearly that wasn't enough. For my second attempt I upped it to 45 minutes daily for 3 weeks and still missed by one question. Really frustrated because the actual driving feels natural to me, it's just the written test holding me back.
Does anyone know roughly what percentage of the 40 questions are about road signs versus right-of-way rules? I feel like if I nail those two areas I'll finally get over the line. Heard some people say 4 weeks of solid daily prep is the minimum. Would love to hear what actually worked for others who failed at least once before passing.
Right-of-way at uncontrolled junctions tripped me up badly on my first attempt. There are about 8 scenario types they recycle and once you know the correct response for each one it's basically free marks. Spend 3 solid days just on those and your score should jump noticeably.
One thing nobody tells you is that some questions have two answers that look almost identical. Read every option to the very end before clicking. I rushed through a junction scenario on my first sit and picked the wrong one because I stopped reading halfway through the second option.
I passed on my third attempt too, so don't stress too much about it. What clicked for me was drilling the hazard perception clips every single day for a full week — I went from basically guessing to recognizing patterns quickly. The sign questions are probably 30% of the test so if you're weak there it absolutely shows in your score.
The official RSA handbook PDF is underrated as a study resource. I printed out pages 40 to 70 specifically for road signs and taped them around my bedroom — sounds ridiculous but after 10 days I knew them cold. Passed with 38/40 after failing my first attempt at 33.
