Finally passed my RI DMV knowledge test after failing twice — here's what worked

So I failed the Rhode Island knowledge test twice and was honestly embarrassed to even go back. The first time I walked in completely cold thinking I'd just wing it — got a 68% when you need a 80% to pass. Second time I studied a little but focused on the wrong stuff (mostly just memorizing speed limits) and still didn't make it. Really frustrated at that point.

What finally worked was being way more systematic about it. I spent about a week using an RI DMV practice test every single day, but I tracked which question types I kept missing instead of just randomly clicking through. Turns out I was consistently wrong on right-of-way scenarios and school zone rules. Once I identified that, I went back to the actual RI driver's manual and read those sections cover to cover.

Passed on my third attempt with a 92%. If you're struggling, don't just repeat practice tests blindly — figure out your weak spots first. Happy to answer questions if anyone's prepping right now.

This is exactly the advice I needed. I've been grinding practice tests for two weeks but just hitting 'retry' without really analyzing my mistakes. The right-of-way questions are killing me too — there are like six different intersection scenarios and I can never remember which car goes first. Going to try your approach of actually reading the manual sections for the stuff I keep missing. Test is scheduled for next Thursday.

Congrats on passing! I had a similar experience — failed once, then got serious with a proper study guide and passed the second time with an 88%. One thing that helped me was doing the practice tests in timed mode even though the real test isn't strictly timed. It forced me to stop second-guessing every answer. Also, the RI manual has some quirks around roundabout rules that aren't always covered well in generic national practice tests, so make sure you're using Rhode Island-specific material.

Right of way questions tripped me up too! The trick I used — if you're ever unsure, the car that arrived first goes first, and ties go to whoever's on the right. Saved me on at least three questions. Good luck to everyone prepping!
