Failed RCIS once already — what actually helped you pass?

So I took the RCIS back in March and fell short by 11 points. I'm registered again for July and honestly feeling a mix of determined and terrified. The cardiac cath lab stuff I feel okay on, but hemodynamic monitoring and the equipment troubleshooting questions completely wrecked me. I didn't realize how heavily they'd test on pressure waveform interpretation.

This time around I've been doing a lot more RCIS practice test questions — way more than I did before. I think I was overconfident because I've been scrubbing cases for 3 years. Turns out clinical experience and test-taking are very different animals. I'm also working through a structured study guide now instead of just reviewing my old notes.

For anyone who's passed: how many weeks out did you really buckle down? And did you find the actual exam harder or easier than the practice materials? Any exam tips on which domains to prioritize would be genuinely appreciated. I need to pass this one.

I retook mine after failing by 7 points and passed on the second attempt. Honestly the biggest thing was timed practice — I was running out of time on the real exam because I wasn't used to the pace. I did 50-question timed sets every night for about 6 weeks. Hemodynamics was tough for me too. Make sure you really know the normal ranges cold, because they'll give you a tracing and expect you to identify the problem fast.

The equipment and radiation safety sections caught me off guard the first time. There's more physics than you'd expect. I found a study guide that broke down the RCIS domains by percentage weight and that helped me stop spending so much time on stuff that's only 10% of the exam. What study materials are you using currently? Some of the older prep books are pretty outdated compared to the current test blueprint.

Three years of experience is actually a double-edged sword — you know the workflow but you might have some habits that don't match textbook answers. Trust the practice test feedback over your gut on anything controversial. You've got this, especially knowing where you lost points last time.
