PS exam (Professional Surveyor) — how long after LSIT do most people wait?

Passed my LSIT two years ago and I'm now eligible to sit for the PS (Professional Surveyor) exam. I work for a licensed surveying firm and have been accumulating the required experience hours under supervision. The actual exam is what I'm trying to prepare for now.

How many years of practical experience did you have before you felt ready, and what study approach worked best for the PS exam? The breadth of the content (legal, math, geodesy, boundary) is overwhelming.

The NSPS study materials and state-specific boundary law review are essential. Each state's version of the exam has state law questions that require targeted prep — generic national materials won't cover those.

Study groups with other LSIT-holders preparing for PS are very effective. The exam covers enough breadth that different people have different strengths and you collectively cover more ground.

Most people I know took the PS between 3-5 years post-LSIT. The legal descriptions and boundary law sections are where people with strong field experience sometimes struggle because the exam tests the theory behind what you do daily, not just the practice.
