Student pilot here, 42 hours logged (20 solo), checkride scheduled in 5 weeks. My CFI says I'm ready but the oral portion of the checkride is what's keeping me up at night. I can fly the maneuvers well but talking through regulations, weather decisions, and systems under pressure is different from just doing them.
What was your last month of PPL prep like and how did you approach the oral portion specifically?

The oral is a conversation, not a quiz. My examiner was genuinely curious about how I think, not trying to trick me. Answer directly, admit when you're not sure, and say where you'd look it up rather than guessing. DPEs appreciate honesty.

Systems knowledge trips up a lot of PPL candidates. Know your specific airplane's POH — not just the general Cessna 172 knowledge but your specific registration's limitations and procedures. DPEs sometimes ask about the actual aircraft you'll fly.

Study the ACS (Airman Certification Standards) document for your certificate category. It tells you exactly what the examiner is supposed to ask about. Work through every task verbally with your CFI at least twice.
