Just passed my MTM — here's what actually worked

Finally got my MTM certification after 10 weeks of prep. Wanted to share what made the difference for anyone still grinding.

I spent the first few weeks just reading the official material, but my scores weren't moving. The real turning point was switching to active practice. Every time I got a question wrong, I went back to find out exactly why — not just the right answer but the concept behind it. If you haven't tried it yet, the mtm behavioral health pharmacotherapy covers the material in a way that actually matches the real exam format.

For the exam prep section specifically, I recommend drilling it separately before mixing it into full-length tests. I also found mtm pharmacists test useful for the applied question types. The MTM exam rewards consistency over cramming. Three weeks before test day I was scoring 74% on practice sets — and I passed with 87% on the real thing.

Happy to answer questions. Don't give up — it's absolutely doable.

Bookmarking this. I'm still in the early stages of MTM prep and threads like this are way more useful than generic study guides. The specifics about practice test are particularly helpful — that's the section I've been avoiding.

Good thread. One thing I'd add: don't try to cram the night before. I did 2 hours the night before my MTM and I think it hurt more than helped. Your brain needs consolidation time. Light review or full rest is better.

The part about reviewing wrong answers thoroughly is so underrated. Most people just move on after getting something wrong. Going back to understand the concept is what actually builds retention for the MTM.

Honestly, I almost bailed around week 6. My practice scores were stuck in the low 60s and I kept second-guessing whether I'd actually pass. What snapped me out of it was getting really targeted instead of reviewing everything. I stopped doing random questions and started drilling the areas I consistently missed, especially the clinical stuff. The mtm polypharmacy assessment reduction questions were killing me, but once I focused there specifically my scores jumped fast.

If you're struggling, don't quit right before it clicks. It felt like nothing was working until suddenly it was. Stay focused on your weak spots and don't waste time re-reading material you already know.

Quick update for anyone wondering how long this takes — I'm at week 6 and my practice scores finally jumped from the low 60s to 78% after drilling specific topic sets. The mtm polypharmacy assessment reduction questions were rough at first but they've honestly become my strongest area now. Consistency really does compound.

I'm planning to sit the real exam in about three weeks. Feeling cautiously optimistic but not comfortable yet. If you're still early in your prep, don't skip the clinical application stuff — that's where I was losing the most points before I figured it out.

Honestly I almost quit around week 6. My scores were stuck, I wasn't retaining anything, and I seriously considered rescheduling. What changed it for me was going back to the stuff I kept getting wrong instead of just doing more questions. Specialty meds were killing me, so I drilled mtm/questions/specialty medication management 2 until I actually understood the patterns, not just memorized answers.

If you're in that same plateau right now, don't give up yet. It's not a sign you can't pass, it's usually just that your review method isn't matching where your gaps actually are. Find the weak spot and go deep on it. That's what finally moved the needle for me.

Honestly I almost bailed around week 6. My practice scores were stuck in the low 60s and I kept thinking maybe I just wasn't cut out for this. What finally clicked was drilling the stuff I kept getting wrong instead of just redoing random questions. Specialty meds were killing me until I found mtm/questions/specialty medication management 2 and just hammered it repeatedly until the patterns stuck.

Don't give up if you're in that frustrating middle phase. It doesn't feel like anything's working and then suddenly it does. I went from 63% to passing in about two weeks once I stopped trying to cover everything and started actually fixing my weak spots.
