Finally passed my PDC exam after two failed attempts — here's what worked

Okay so I've been lurking here forever and I figure I owe the community a post since so many threads helped me. I failed the PDC twice — first time I went in basically cold with just my notes from the bootcamp, second time I bought some random study guide that was clearly outdated. Third attempt I finally cracked 80% and I want to share what actually made the difference.

The biggest game changer was grinding through a solid PDC practice test set that actually matched the real question style. Not just flashcards — full timed simulations where you feel the pressure. I also stopped trying to memorize everything and started focusing on understanding the WHY behind change management principles, especially the stakeholder engagement stuff which showed up way more than I expected.

My timeline was about 6 weeks of serious prep, maybe 1.5 hours a night. Anyone else sitting for it soon? Happy to answer questions about specific topic areas or what resources I'd skip.

Congrats!! Two fails and still pushing through takes real guts. I'm scheduled for mine in three weeks and the stakeholder stuff is killing me too. Can I ask — did you find any particular study guide that broke down the organizational change models clearly? I keep confusing Kotter's 8 steps with ADKAR and it's driving me crazy. My target is just passing, I don't need to crush it.

The timed practice tests are so underrated as exam tips go. I passed on my first try and honestly attribute most of it to doing at least 15 full mocks before test day. Your brain just stops panicking when the format feels familiar. Also worth noting — the real exam has some scenario questions that are way more nuanced than basic recall stuff, so practicing with quality questions matters a lot more than just volume.

Six weeks at 1.5 hours a night is almost exactly what I did. Don't let anyone tell you this cert requires months of prep — if you're disciplined and using the right materials, that timeline is totally realistic. Good luck to everyone still in the grind.
