Finally passed PCS after three attempts — here's what actually worked

I've been lurking here for almost a year and figured it was time to give back since so many posts helped me get through this. Failed the PCS twice before I finally passed last month with an 82. The first two times I was just reading through the HRCI materials and calling it good — huge mistake. The exam is way more scenario-based than I expected, and memorizing definitions only gets you so far.

What changed for me was committing to a real PCS study guide with practice scenarios and actually timing myself. I did about 90 minutes a day for six weeks leading up to my third attempt. The compensation strategy and global mobility sections killed me on attempt two, so I hammered those specifically.

Taking a solid PCS practice test under timed conditions every weekend was the game-changer. You start recognizing how the questions are framed, which is half the battle. Happy to share more exam tips if anyone's prepping right now — just ask.

Congrats on passing! I'm sitting for mine in eight weeks and the scenario questions are exactly what I'm worried about. Did you find certain topic areas came up more than others? I've heard compensation benchmarking is heavily tested but I genuinely can't tell if that's just everyone's anxiety talking or actual experience from people who've taken it recently.

Three attempts is nothing to be ashamed of — this exam is no joke. I passed on my second try and the timed practice tests were my saving grace too. One thing I'd add: don't skip the ethics and compliance questions even if they feel straightforward. I got burned by two of those because I assumed they were easy points and didn't study them carefully.

This is the post I needed today. I've been putting off scheduling my exam because I keep feeling underprepared. Going to set a date this week and work backward from it. Congrats again!
