Finally passed PASL after two attempts — here's what actually helped

Okay so I've been lurking here for months and felt like I owed the community a real write-up since so many posts helped me. I'm a soccer referee going on seven years and honestly thought the PASL certification would be a formality. Spooked myself badly on the first attempt — scored a 68 when you need a 75. The laws of the game questions weren't the problem; it was the situational judgment stuff that got me.

Second time around I spent about three weeks doing structured prep. Found a solid PASL practice test that actually mirrored the format (timing, question style, the whole thing) and drilled it until I was consistently hitting 82-85. I also leaned hard on a study guide that broke down the offside rule edge cases and restart scenarios because those are sneaky point-killers. Passed with an 81 this time.

For anyone prepping now: don't underestimate the advantage plays and misconduct sections. Happy to answer questions about my specific timeline or what topics to prioritize.

Congrats! This is exactly the kind of post I needed right now. I'm sitting at about four weeks out from my exam date and the advantage play scenarios are killing me too. Can I ask — how many hours per week were you putting in during that three-week stretch? I've been doing maybe 45 minutes a night but wondering if I need to ramp it up.

The offside edge cases are no joke. I passed on my first try but I'll be honest, I almost tripped up on the "interfering with play" vs. "interfering with an opponent" distinction. One exam tip that helped me: read each scenario question twice before answering. Sounds obvious but under pressure I was rushing and misreading situations completely.

Two attempts is nothing to be embarrassed about — plenty of experienced refs stumble on the written portion. The practical knowledge doesn't always translate to exam format. Glad you stuck with it and came back with the breakdown. This thread is getting bookmarked.
