Finally passed my PAC exam after two attempts — here's what helped

So I just got my results back yesterday and I finally passed the PAC certification on my second try. Honestly, I was pretty defeated after failing the first time by just 4 points, so I completely overhauled my study approach. The biggest mistake I made round one was relying too heavily on reading the textbook without actually testing myself.

This time around I used a PAC practice test almost every day for the last three weeks. Doing timed practice under realistic conditions made a huge difference — I went from feeling totally lost on the policy and administration questions to actually feeling confident. I also found a solid study guide that broke down the competency areas in a way that finally clicked for me. Spent about 60–70 hours total studying over six weeks.

If you're in the middle of prep right now, I'd say don't underestimate the ethics and governance sections. I dropped a ton of points there on attempt one without even realizing it. Happy to answer questions if anyone's gearing up for their test date.

Congrats! I'm about 5 weeks out from my exam date and the ethics section is exactly where I'm struggling too. Which practice test resource did you find most realistic compared to the actual exam? I've tried two different ones and honestly the question style varies a lot. Want to make sure I'm not drilling the wrong format before I sit for it.

This is really encouraging to read. I failed by 6 points last November and haven't been able to bring myself to reschedule. The policy and administration competency destroyed me — I think I only got about half of those right. Did your study guide cover that area specifically or did you have to supplement with other materials? Also curious how strict the timing felt on the real exam.

The exam tips about timed practice are spot on. I passed on my first attempt last year and doing full-length timed runs in the final two weeks is probably what pushed me over. Builds test stamina more than anything else. Good luck to everyone still preparing — it's totally passable with the right prep.
