Finally passed OMST after two attempts — here's what actually worked

So I've been lurking here for a while and figured it was time to give back since this community helped me so much. I work in operations management for a mid-size distribution company and my director basically told me getting the OMST certified would fast-track my promotion review. No pressure, right? First attempt I scored a 68 — passing is 75 — so I was gutted. I'd only studied for about three weeks and honestly winged a lot of the supply chain optimization sections.

Second time around I went way more structured. I grabbed a solid OMST study guide that broke down each domain (operations strategy, process improvement, quality management) and spent about six weeks this time, roughly an hour a night. The biggest game-changer was using an OMST practice test to simulate real exam conditions — timed, no notes, the whole thing. My weak spot was lean methodology questions, so I drilled those specifically.

Scored an 82 on the second attempt. If you're just starting out, don't underestimate the inventory management section — it's heavier than the official outline suggests. Happy to answer questions about what resources I used or how I structured my study schedule.

Can I ask which practice test platform you used? I'm sitting for the OMST in about eight weeks and I'm struggling to find quality materials. A lot of what's out there feels outdated or doesn't match the current exam blueprint. I'm especially worried about the technology and systems integration domain — my background is more traditional ops so that's foreign territory for me. Did your study guide cover that in depth?

Congrats on passing! Your experience mirrors mine almost exactly. I failed my first attempt by four points and it was honestly the lean/Six Sigma crossover questions that killed me. Second time I focused heavily on those and the process mapping scenarios. One thing I'd add — don't skip the exam tips sections in prep guides, they seem generic but the advice about time allocation per question section actually saved me like 15 minutes on test day.

The inventory management section being heavier than advertised is so real. I talked to three people who passed and they all said the same thing — budget extra study time there. Good luck to everyone prepping right now, this certification is genuinely worth it once you're through the grind.
