Finally passed ODP after two attempts — what actually made the difference

So I just got my results back yesterday and I passed. Honestly didn't think it was going to happen after I failed my first attempt back in March. I went in underprepared the first time — figured my years of experience would carry me and totally underestimated how specific the questions get around procurement procedures and contract documentation. Scored a 68 when I needed a 70. Embarrassing.

This time around I spent about six weeks really digging in. The biggest game-changer was finding a solid ODP practice test that mirrored the actual question format. I did probably 400-500 practice questions total, tracked which domains I kept getting wrong, and forced myself to actually read the rationales instead of just clicking through. The ODP study guide I used broke down the acquisition lifecycle in a way that finally made the oversight sections click for me.

For anyone currently studying, my biggest exam tip is don't ignore the ethics and standards of conduct sections. I had way more questions on those than I expected. Anyone else have experience with the second attempt? Happy to share more specifics about what resources I used.

Congrats on passing! I'm about three weeks out from my exam and honestly the practice questions have been the most useful thing I've done. I was doing the same thing you mentioned — just clicking through without reading why I got something wrong. Once I slowed down and really worked through the explanations my scores went from like 64% to 78% in about two weeks. The procurement integrity questions are no joke.

This is really helpful, thanks for posting. I'm a bit worried because I'm coming from a grants background, not traditional contracting, so some of the FAR-heavy content feels foreign to me. Did your study guide cover the regulatory stuff in depth or was it more scenario-based? I've been doing mostly scenario questions but wondering if I need to go back to basics on the regulatory framework before test day.

The ethics section absolutely showed up way more than I expected on mine too. Spend real time on those standards of conduct scenarios — they sound obvious until the answer choices are all really close. Good write-up, this is the kind of honest breakdown that actually helps people prep.
