I'm not going to sugarcoat it — I failed the OCC twice before I finally passed last month, and I want to share what made the difference because I wish someone had told me this earlier. My first two attempts I was basically just re-reading my notes and doing random flashcards. Felt productive but clearly wasn't working.
What changed everything was switching to a structured OCC practice test routine. Specifically, I started timing myself on each section separately instead of just doing full mock exams. That exposed exactly where I was hemorrhaging points — for me it was the supervisory sound practices section. Once I knew that, I could actually fix it instead of just grinding harder on stuff I already knew.
My exam tips for anyone prepping: don't underestimate the regulatory framework questions, they're sneakier than they look. I spent about 6 weeks studying, roughly 2 hours a day, and used a mix of the official OCC study guide materials plus community resources. Happy to answer questions from anyone currently in the process — I know how stressful this one is.
