Failed NYSTCE ATAS twice — what am I doing wrong?

I'm at my wit's end here. I've taken the NYSTCE Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills (ATAS) twice now and I keep scoring around a 218 — passing is 220. Two points. I honestly thought this exam would be straightforward compared to other certifications, but the reading comprehension and math sections keep tripping me up. I've been working as a paraprofessional for three years so I figured real-world experience would carry me. Nope.

For context, I study maybe 6-8 hours a week between shifts. I've been using a couple of different NYSTCE teacher assistant certification prep resources and some random YouTube videos, but nothing feels targeted enough. I also tried a few NYSTCE: Students with Disabilities Exam Prep #3 questions to build general NYSTCE familiarity, which actually helped with the instructional support section. Has anyone found a really solid nystce atas practice test that mirrors the actual exam closely? I need something that pushes me past that 220 threshold before my third attempt in July.

Also — totally unrelated but my aunt keeps confusing my certification journey with the nys notary test she took last year. Different universe, but honestly the nys notary public practice test materials she used were more organized than what I've found for ATAS. Hoping someone here has been through this and can point me in the right direction.

Two points is brutal, I'm sorry. I went through something similar with a different NYSTCE exam. One thing I'd ask — are you reviewing your wrong answers carefully or just doing more questions? Because volume alone won't move the needle if you're reinforcing the same mistakes. Also the instructional support competency tripped me up until I started thinking about it from a "what would a supervising teacher expect" angle rather than what I personally do on the job.

July gives you plenty of time — don't panic. Six weeks of focused daily practice beats two months of scattered studying every time. You're literally two points away, which means the content knowledge is basically there. It's probably test strategy and timing at this point.

I passed ATAS on my second try with a 233 after failing with a 214 the first time. The thing that helped me most was drilling the math section specifically — a lot of people underestimate the applied math portion. I gave myself eight weeks, did practice questions every single morning before coffee, and focused hard on the writing mechanics section. The nystce atas practice test on the Pearson website is closer to the real thing than most third-party stuff, for what it's worth.
