I've been trying to get my NVC certification for almost a year now and honestly I was starting to think it just wasn't going to happen for me. Failed the first time by 8 points, second time by 3 — that second one really stung because I thought I had it. My background is in HR but the interpersonal communication framework they test on is so specific that general experience only gets you so far.
What finally clicked was switching how I was studying. I'd been reading the official handbook front to back like it was a novel, which is basically useless. A coworker recommended I start with an NVC practice test just to understand the format and where my gaps actually were. That changed everything — I could see I was consistently missing questions on needs vs. feelings distinctions and the four-component model applications.
For anyone else grinding through this, I'd really recommend building your study guide around your weak areas rather than reviewing everything equally. I gave myself 6 weeks for the third attempt, about 45 minutes a day, and passed with a 78. Happy to share what resources helped if anyone wants specifics.
