Failed NV DMV written test twice — what am I missing?

Okay so I'm genuinely embarrassed but I've failed the Nevada DMV written test twice now and I'm starting to wonder if I'm studying the wrong things. The first time I just winged it (bad idea, I know). The second time I studied for like two days using some random flashcard app and still missed too many questions on right-of-way and traffic signs. I got a 70 and you need an 80 to pass.

I've been living in Las Vegas for six months after moving from Texas, so I thought I had a decent base knowledge of driving rules — apparently Nevada has some quirks I'm not accounting for. A friend mentioned using a dedicated NV DMV practice test site that mirrors the actual question formats, which I hadn't tried yet. Has anyone found that approach more effective than just reading the handbook cover to cover?

I really need to get this done before my Texas license expires next month. Any specific topics I should focus on? I'm struggling most with the speed limit exceptions and open range laws. Would love a solid study guide recommendation from people who've actually been through this recently.

The open range laws tripped me up too — that's such a Nevada-specific thing that nobody from out of state knows. I passed on my third try after I spent a full weekend doing nothing but NV DMV practice tests online. Seriously, the repetition is what locks it in. I'd also reread the chapter on school zone rules because those questions showed up way more than I expected on the real test.

Right-of-way questions are genuinely the hardest part for people who learned to drive in other states because the scenarios get weirdly specific. What helped me was finding a study guide that broke down each scenario with explanations rather than just the answers. I passed with a 92 after about four hours of focused prep. Two days of random studying is probably too scattered — try doing 50 practice questions in one sitting and reviewing every wrong answer immediately.

Don't overthink the signs section, those are basically free points once you memorize them. Spend your remaining time on the speed limit exceptions and you'll probably clear 80 no problem. You've got this — third time's the charm for a lot of people.
