NSS Navien certification prep - condensing unit diagnosis questions

Going through my Navien service specialist prep right now and the condensing unit troubleshooting section is where I keep getting stuck. I've been an HVAC tech for 11 years but Navien's error code system and fault diagnosis flow is specific enough that general experience alone won't carry you through the exam.

I've been studying for about 4 weeks, putting in 2 hours most evenings after work. The error code reference material they provide is solid but there are a lot of codes and they'll test you on less common ones. I've been making a table organizing codes by subsystem which has been helping with retention significantly more than just re-reading the material.

From talking to a couple of guys in my area who've already passed, the practical hands-on portion is what most people struggle with more than the written part. They said roughly 65-70% of candidates who fail do so on the practical assessment. I'm scheduled for a hands-on training session next month before I attempt it.

Anyone have specific tips for the water quality and venting configuration questions? Those two areas keep showing up in the practice material and I'm not as solid on them as I'd like to be.

I'm a plumber transitioning into hydronic systems and the NSS cert is a prerequisite for the contracts I'm going after. The water quality and system pressure sections overlap well with what I already know from plumbing side.

Error codes 10E and 11E gave me the most trouble during prep. The fault isolation process Navien uses is pretty specific and deviates from what I was used to with other brands.

Passed about 6 months ago. Study the installation manual alongside the service manual - a lot of service problems trace back to installation issues and they'll test you on both angles.

The written test isn't bad if you've spent real time with Navien units. I passed at 82% after about 3 weeks of study. The practical is a different story - they want to see that you're methodical and safe, not just that you know the right answer.
