How much does MS Notary actually matter to employers right now?

I've been doing a lot of searching on "MS Notary" and while the certification looks solid on paper, I'm getting mixed signals about how much employers actually care in 2026.

Some job postings list it as required, some say "preferred," and some don't mention it at all even for roles where it seems relevant.

For those of you who have your MS Notary certification — has it actually opened doors or increased your rate? Or has the job market shifted to the point where it's table stakes rather than a differentiator?

Context: I'm already working in the field and trying to decide whether to prioritize MS Notary or invest the same time into MS Notary - Mississippi Notary Exam.

Also — how current does the cert need to be? If I pass now, is a 2-3 year old cert still valuable or do employers want recent?

Worth mentioning: the free ms notary notarial acts and procedures covers exactly the areas people tend to struggle with most.

Went through this exact question when I was prepping. The MS Notary material on "MS Notary" is actually not as bad as it looks — once it clicks it clicks.

What helped me was finding one resource that explained it from first principles instead of just giving me the "right answer." Made a huge difference on the scenario-based questions.

Also: don't underestimate the importance of reviewing your wrong answers more than your right ones. I learned more from 20 wrong answers than 200 correct ones.

I actually failed the first time by a few points. Total gut punch. But passed on the second attempt with a comfortable margin.

What changed: I stopped trying to memorize answers and started actually understanding the material. Specifically on MS Notary exam — I went back to basics and worked forward from first principles.

Also switched from reading to doing. Less time with the textbook, more time on practice questions with detailed answer explanations.

You've got this. The second attempt is always better because you know exactly what the exam is like.

Quick update: just cleared 83% on my most recent MS Notary practice set using free ms notary legal and ethical responsibilities. Sitting for the real thing in 3 weeks. Feeling cautiously optimistic.

Quick update since I'm in the same boat. I've been grinding practice tests for about three weeks now and just hit an 84% on this free ms notary legal and ethical responsibilities set, which is the first time I actually felt ready instead of just guessing. The ethics stuff tripped me up early. Once it clicked though, my scores jumped fast.

I'm planning to sit the real exam end of this month. Honestly I stopped worrying about whether every employer lists it as required, because the postings I want all say preferred at minimum and a few say required. Better to have it and not need it. If you're on the fence, just start taking the practice questions and you'll see where you stand pretty quick.
