Finally passed my notary exam after two failed attempts, here's what worked
So I just got my results back yesterday and I finally passed the notary public exam on my third try. Honestly embarrassing to admit that, but I'm hoping my experience helps someone else avoid the same mistakes I made. The first two times I went in thinking it would be easy — it's just notarizing documents, right? Wrong. The state-specific rules and the nuances around signer identification tripped me up every single time.
What actually made the difference was slowing down and drilling the identity verification and signature procedures until they were second nature. I used the Notary Public Signature & Identity Verification practice test probably 15 times over two weeks, and the repetition genuinely helped the concepts click. Combined with a decent study guide that walked through notarial acts step by step, I started feeling way more confident.
My exam tips for anyone starting out: don't underestimate the acknowledgment vs. jurat distinction, know your acceptable ID types cold, and give yourself at least 3 weeks of focused prep. What resources is everyone else using? Would love to hear what's worked.
