Failed NH Notary by 3 points — what should I change?

Passed NH Notary 9 months ago. Happy to share what I remember.

On the "NH Notary exam" stuff specifically — I found the practice tests here were actually harder than the real exam on those questions. Which was great because going in I felt more prepared than I needed to be.

The time pressure is real though. I came in with maybe 8 minutes to spare and that was after skipping the ones I wasn't sure about and coming back.

Don't try to cram the night before. Seriously. Last-minute stress makes you second-guess things you actually know.

For what it's worth from someone who's been through it:

The NH Notary is one of those exams where the practice tests really do prepare you well. The style of questioning is pretty consistent. If you're comfortable with "NH Notary" material under timed conditions, you'll be fine.

The one thing I'd add: read the question stems very carefully. They sometimes add a qualifier that completely changes the right answer and it's easy to miss when you're going fast.

Also check whether you need to schedule the exam in advance — some testing centers book up 2-3 weeks out.

The advice about understanding why wrong answers are wrong — not just memorizing right ones — is genuinely the best NH Notary advice in this thread. Rebuilt my prep around that and it made a real difference.

I was in the exact same spot last year, failed by 5 points on my first try. What changed everything for me was stopping the passive review and actually drilling the application stuff — the scenario-based questions are where I kept losing points, because I knew the rules in theory but froze when they were wrapped in a real situation. I also didn't realize how specific they get on things like journal requirements and acceptable ID, so I made sure I had those details locked down cold.

Honestly the concept questions are almost too easy, which makes you think you're more ready than you are. You've got the foundation, you just need more reps on the "what do you do when" type questions. Keep grinding those and you'll flip those 3 points pretty quick.
