Finally booked my NMC CBT — anyone else struggling with the pharmacology section?

Hi everyone, long-time lurker here finally posting. I'm an internationally educated nurse from the Philippines and I've been preparing for the NMC CBT for about three months now. My test is booked for mid-July and honestly the pharmacology and medication calculations parts are making me really anxious. Back home I worked in a busy surgical ward for six years, so the clinical stuff feels familiar, but the UK-specific drug names and protocols are throwing me off completely.

I've been using a couple of different NMC CBT practice test resources and working through a study guide I found online, but I'm not sure if I'm focusing on the right areas. My target is to clear all four domains in one sitting — I know some people spread them out but I'd rather just get it done. Has anyone here passed recently? Would love to know which topics actually came up and how many hours a week you were studying leading up to your exam.

Any exam tips would be genuinely appreciated. Feeling a bit isolated going through this process and it helps to hear from people who've actually been through it!

I passed mine back in February — took me two attempts on the adult nursing domain but I got there! Honestly the pharmacology wasn't as brutal as I expected. Focus on safe medication administration principles rather than memorising every drug name. The NMC CBT practice test questions on Pearson VUE's official prep materials are a decent indicator of the style. I was doing about 15 hours a week for six weeks leading up to it.

The medication calculation questions are mostly about dosage and infusion rates — brush up on your maths because they can catch you out. What study guide are you using? I found some resources were way too generic and didn't reflect the actual exam format. The domains I found trickiest were professional values and communication, surprisingly. Not pharmacology. Good luck with July, that's a solid timeline if you're already three months in.

Six years of surgical experience is a huge advantage — don't underestimate that! The CBT tests your thinking, not just facts. Keep doing timed practice questions every day, even just 20-30 at a time. Consistency beats cramming every time. You've got this.
