Finally passed the NM bar after two attempts — what actually worked for me
I'm not sure where to start except to say that sitting for the New Mexico bar exam twice is something I'd never wish on anyone. After my first attempt I was devastated — I missed the passing score by 11 points and had basically no idea where I went wrong. The feedback was so vague it was almost useless. I ended up completely overhauling my approach before the second sitting.
The biggest change I made was actually using a structured NM BAR practice test routine instead of just reading through outlines passively. I was putting in maybe 3-4 hours a day in the six weeks leading up to the exam, but I made sure at least half of that was active recall — practice questions, timed essays, MEE practice. I also picked up a New Mexico-specific study guide that covered the community property rules and the state procedural quirks that national prep courses just gloss over.
Anyone else here studying for an upcoming sitting? Happy to share what resources helped most. The essay component especially — I had some real turning points once I understood what graders actually want to see.
