I hold the CWON (Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse) through WOCNCB. My employer has asked about NCWOC certification and I'm confused about whether it's a separate credential or a pathway. Are these organizations related or competing?
I'm also coming up on recertification for my CWON in 18 months and don't want to take on study load for two different things simultaneously.

WOCNCB (CWON) and NCWOC are different credentialing bodies. NCWOC is newer and less universally recognized than WOCNCB. If you already hold CWON, that's the stronger credential in most hospital systems.

I'd prioritize your CWON recertification first — it's the more established credential and what most employers list as a requirement. Add NCWOC only if a specific employer role or contract requires it.

Ask your employer specifically what they're trying to achieve with the NCWOC recommendation. Sometimes it's a confusion about which credentialing body is which. Your CWON likely satisfies whatever they're actually looking for.
