Finally passed the NCRC after two attempts — here's what actually helped

So I finally got my National Career Readiness Certificate last week and honestly I'm still a little shocked. Failed the first time back in February — not by a lot, but enough that I had to sit with it for a while. The Applied Math section killed me. I thought I was decent at math but the way they frame those workplace scenarios completely threw me off.

Second time around I spent about three weeks with a solid NCRC study guide and did timed practice sets every day instead of just reviewing concepts passively. The biggest game-changer was actually finding a decent NCRC practice test that mimicked the real format — especially for Locating Information, which I'd been underestimating. That section has a lot more layered graphics and tables than I expected.

Anyone else retaking it or prepping right now? Happy to share some exam tips that worked for me. Targeting Gold level if you're curious — ended up hitting it on the second try with a little room to spare.

Congrats! I'm currently prepping for mine and the Applied Math is exactly where I'm struggling too. Did you find the practice questions matched the difficulty on the real thing? I've been using a couple different resources and some feel way too easy compared to what I've heard the actual exam is like. Trying to hit Silver at minimum for a manufacturing job application I have pending.

The Locating Information section is no joke. I took mine last year and spent way too much time on the math and barely touched that section beforehand. Ended up doing fine on math but scrambling through the graphs and charts. My advice: don't skip the reading and information sections thinking they'll be easy. Budget your study hours across all three, seriously.

Two attempts is totally normal — a lot of people don't realize how timed and specific the format is until they're sitting in front of it. Glad the structured practice helped. Gold is a great result, especially for competitive job markets. Well done.
