Finally passed the NCED after two attempts — here's what actually helped
So I just got my results back and I finally passed the NCED on my second try. First attempt I scored a 71 and needed a 75, which was honestly demoralizing. I spent about three months prepping this time around and I want to share what made the difference for people who are earlier in the process.
The biggest thing that changed my approach was actually working through a structured NCED practice test rather than just re-reading my notes. I'd been studying passively for months and not retaining anything. Once I started timing myself on practice questions — especially the sections on program development and ethics — I started to notice where my gaps actually were. The study guide I was using broke things down by domain, which helped me stop treating it like one giant undifferentiated blob of information.
My biggest weak spots were supervision models and the multicultural competency questions. Does anyone else find those especially tricky? Would love to hear what exam tips worked for people who've already cleared this thing. Happy to answer questions too — I remember how anxious I was the first time.
