Anyone else struggling with the NCCAP exam? Need honest advice

So I've been working as an activity professional for about six years now and I finally decided to go for my ACC certification. I signed up for the NCCAP exam three months out thinking that was plenty of time, but honestly I'm kind of panicking. The domains are way broader than I expected — especially the documentation and programming sections. I've been using a NCCAP practice test I found online but I'm not sure if it's even covering the right material.

Has anyone here gone through this recently? I scored a 68% on my first practice run and I've read that you need somewhere around 70-75% to pass the actual thing. I'm putting in maybe an hour a night after work which probably isn't enough. Looking for a solid NCCAP study guide that actually maps to the current competency areas, not something outdated.

Any exam tips from people who've already passed would be genuinely appreciated. Especially curious about the ethics and documentation sections — those are killing me right now.

I passed my ACC last spring after two attempts, so I feel you. The documentation section tripped me up the first time too. What helped me most was memorizing the care plan components and understanding how activity assessments tie into MDS. Honestly, 68% on a practice test isn't bad starting out — I was lower than that at first. Give yourself at least two focused study sessions per week, not just before bed when you're already tired.

Which practice tests are you using? Some of the free ones floating around are seriously outdated — NCCAP updated their competency domains a few years back and a lot of older materials don't reflect that. I used the official NCCAP candidate handbook as my baseline and built study notes around each domain. The ethics questions were surprisingly straightforward once I stopped overthinking them. They're mostly about resident rights and person-centered care principles.

68% on your first try is actually a decent baseline — don't be too hard on yourself. I bumped mine to 82% over six weeks just by focusing on the weak spots instead of restudying everything. You've got this.
