Passed my NACE CP1 (Cathodic Protection Tester) last year and now I'm targeting CP2 (Technician). I work in pipeline corrosion control and do CP surveys regularly. The CP2 content guide jumps significantly in depth — more design, more calculations, more troubleshooting than CP1.
How much additional study time did those of you who held CP1 need before passing CP2? My practical experience is strong but the theoretical design portions are where I expect gaps.

Figure 3x the study time of CP1 minimum. The calculation-heavy design sections are a real step up. Get the NACE CP Level 2 Study Guide and work through every practice problem in it — multiple times if needed.

The troubleshooting scenarios on CP2 are the hardest part. They give you a situation with multiple possible causes and you have to reason through the most likely one systematically. Your field experience helps here more than textbooks.

Focus extra time on interference and stray current sections — those tend to have more exam questions than you'd expect and they're topics most CP field techs haven't studied formally.
