CMP exam DAW questions — does it test specific software like Pro Tools or Ableton?

I'm preparing for the CMP exam and I can't get a straight answer on whether it tests specific DAW software or just general DAW concepts. I've been producing on Ableton Live for four years and I have almost zero experience in Pro Tools. If the exam has Pro Tools-specific questions I need to start studying that software immediately.

My understanding is that a proper DAW certification for music producers should be platform-agnostic — testing your knowledge of concepts like routing, bussing, plugin chains, and signal flow rather than where a specific button lives in one application. But some people on forums claim there are Pro Tools questions because it's considered the industry standard for studio engineering.

I worked through the CMP DAW and Software Proficiency practice quiz and the questions there seemed concept-based rather than software-specific, which was reassuring. Has anyone who recently passed the exam confirmed this? Also curious whether the music production certification exam covers MIDI sequencing depth or focuses more on audio recording workflows.

Agreed, it's concept-based. I use Logic Pro and didn't feel disadvantaged. The questions on MIDI are fairly foundational — CC data, velocity, quantization — not deep sequencer-specific workflows. Focus on audio fundamentals and you'll be fine.

From what I experienced, the exam is DAW-agnostic — it tests signal flow, gain staging, routing concepts, and workflow theory. You won't be asked where the compressor plugin lives in Pro Tools. Your Ableton background should transfer fine as long as you know the underlying audio engineering principles.
